Impressions of Hiddensee - Photographs by Susanne Schwarz Opening hours closed.
Gallery Haus am See in Kloster on Hiddensee
The Haus am See gallery in Kloster is dedicated to the special visual language of the island of Hiddensee. In her work, photographer Susanne Schwarz captures the unique moods and landscapes of this car-free Baltic Sea island - from wide beaches and the thorn bush area to the quiet moments of island life.
Hiddensee photographs between light and the Baltic coast
Susanne Schwarz's photographs capture the uniqueness of Hiddensee in its natural originality. The island is part of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and lies to the west of Rügen - known for its national park, thatched houses and the clear light over the Baltic Sea. Schwarz's pictures make this attitude to life visible and offer visitors to the gallery a photographic encounter with the spirit of the island.
Kloster as a cultural meeting place on Hiddensee
The village of Kloster is one of the four villages on Hiddensee and a lively meeting place for art lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. Anyone exploring the Baltic Sea region between Stralsund, Rügen and Fischland-Darß-Zingst will find a special atmosphere on Hiddensee - peaceful, natural and artistically inspiring. The Haus am See gallery fits into this picture as a small, quiet place for encounters with photography and island art.

Museum of Local History Hiddensee
● Kloster
The local history museum is one of the cultural attractions on the island of Hiddensee. Redesigned a few years ago, the permanent exhibition provides a comprehensive and vivid account of life on the island. An insight into life on the island The Hiddensee local history museum is located directly on the west beach of Kloster. It was built around 1890 as a sea rescue station, but for almost 70 years now the old rescue equipment has only been part of the museum. In the permanent exhibition, which was redesigned a few years ago, visitors of all ages can find out how hard the islanders' lives used to be, how seafaring and fishing shaped everyday life, but also how quickly tourism reduced their worries and brought many prominent guests to the island. The most valuable exhibit in the exhibition is a replica of the Hiddensee gold treasure. The original of Germany's largest Viking gold find is in the possession of the Stralsund Museum. A small highlight of the museum visit for many guests is the "Amber Room". The extensive collection of the amber fisherman Ingolf Engels contains wonderful pieces and shows very nicely how diverse the "gold of the Baltic Sea" can be.
