If there are many patients in the emergency department, priority is naturally given to treating severe injuries and any emergencies reported by the emergency medical services. The dispatch of ambulances and emergency physicians is already coordinated by the emergency dispatch center. The hospital maintains a so-called trauma room for the care of severely injured patients. With the participation of doctors and nurses from various specialties, the primary focus here is on maintaining or restoring the patient’s vital functions. To this end, the patient is monitored by equipment, ventilated if necessary, and their circulation is stabilized with infusions and transfusions as part of shock management. Furthermore, life-saving emergency procedures can be performed. Additional diagnostic steps, such as CT scans or X-rays, are conducted on-site. Additionally, to better handle emergencies, the hospital grounds feature a dedicated helipad. The emergency department at Bad Doberan Hospital is thus, within the Doberan Network for Health Tourism, literally the safety net that provides medical care to all guests in our vacation region in the event of an emergency.
