Buskam - erratic boulder in the Baltic Sea off Göhren
This heavy boulder is located approx.
200m from Göhren beach. The part of the stone protruding from the water has a circumference of approx. 40m. The legendary "Buhskam" or "Buskamen" near Göhren is the largest boulder discovered to date in the whole of northern Germany, weighing a massive 1600 tons. Depending on the water level, the stone giant protrudes about 1.50 m out of the approx. 7 m deep water. On the surface of the hammer granite are countless small bowls or pots, the meaning and purpose of which, as well as their dating, have not yet been clarified. The museum ship "Luise", built in 1906, documents the working and living conditions of the Rügen coastal skippers and the importance of coastal shipping for the island's population. The museum ship "Luise" is a fully accessible and completely furnished coastal freighter and is particularly popular with technology enthusiasts and children. Until the 1960s, the motorsailer, which was launched in 1906, sailed the waters around Rügen to supply the island's population with all the necessities of life.
