Planetarium and Observatory in the Hanseatic City of Demmin The water tower was built in 1897 as an elevated reservoir to supply the local population with water.
In 1978, it was converted into an astronomy station. In addition to a seminar room and an observation deck, a Zeiss planetarium with an observatory was added in 1981. Public shows are usually held once a month. Schools, clubs, companies, and private groups can arrange their own appointments upon request. In addition to explanations of current constellations, selected celestial objects can be observed through the refracting telescope when the weather is clear. The Demmin Astronomy Station is a unique destination in the Hanseatic city of Demmin, in the heart of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Originally built in 1897 as a water tower to supply drinking water, the striking building was converted into an astronomy station in 1978.
