The Granitzhaus
The former forestry and inn of the Princes of Putbus has been home to an information center about the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Southeast Rügen since 2004.
The Granitzhaus on the island of Rügen is a former forester's lodge and inn dating from 1901, which now houses the information center for the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve. It stands directly opposite the Granitz hunting lodge near Binz. In 1726, the then Prince of Putbus Moritz Ulrich I had a hunting lodge built on the open space in front of today's Granitzhaus. This consisted of a main house and two side pavilions. Four consecrated stag heads on the front of the main house indicated the purpose of the building: hunting. The princely hunting party stayed in the main house during the hunting season. The current exhibition in the Granitzhaus is designed to be interactive, arouse curiosity and stimulate reflection. Among other things, visitors can look forward to a "treasure chamber" with very special treasures from the region. There is also an animation on the post-glacial development of the region on a 3D model, which also vividly illustrates the settlement history of south-east Rügen and the development of the Baltic Sea. Entry to the exhibition is free of charge.

Prince Moritz Ulrich I zu Putbus had a hunting lodge built on this site as early as 1726 - four consecrated stag heads on the façade referenced its purpose at the time. Since 2004, the Granitzhaus has housed the information center for the UNESCO Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve.

A special attraction is the so-called "treasure chamber", in which extraordinary natural treasures from the region are presented. An animated 3D model illustrates the post-glacial development of the landscape, the settlement history of south-east Rügen and the formation of the Baltic Sea in its present form. Entry to the exhibition is free of charge.
