Barth Town Hall
The building was constructed in 1926 based on designs by the Berlin architect Prof.
Walter Brandt. Since 1946, the building has served as the seat of the Barth municipal administration. Since 2005, it has functioned not only as city hall but also as the administrative headquarters of the Barth district. The address is Teergang 2. In 1925, Barth was granted the status of a county seat. The building was constructed in 1926 as the district office for the Franzburg-Barth district based on designs by the Berlin architect Prof. Walter Brandt. Modelled after North German brick architecture, it is adorned with beautiful gables and a gable-like central section. The district administrator’s residence was located in a side wing. In today’s town hall, you will find, among other things, the Barth City Archives, the Registry Office, the Public Order Office, the Residents’ Registration Office, and the relevant authorities for matters related to construction and real estate, finance, daycare and schools, tourism and culture, housing assistance, municipal affairs, and more.
Barth Town Hall – A County Administrative Office with a Rich History
The Barth Town Hall is one of the most striking historic buildings in the town of Barth on the East Pomeranian Baltic Sea coast. It was built in 1926 based on designs by the Berlin architect Prof. Walter Brandt—at that time serving as the district office for the Franzburg-Barth district. The occasion was Barth’s elevation to district seat in 1925. The building is modeled after traditional North German brick architecture and features characteristic gables as well as a striking gable-like central section. A side wing once served as the district administrator’s residence.
Administrative Headquarters with Diverse Responsibilities
Since 1946, the building on Teergang has served as the seat of the Barth municipal administration. Until 1992, a polyclinic also occupied the premises. Since 2005, Barth Town Hall has also served as the administrative headquarters of the Barth District Office. Today, it houses, among other things, the city archives, the registry office, the public order office, the residents’ registration office, as well as the departments responsible for construction and real estate, finance, daycare and schools, and tourism and culture.
Barth as a Starting Point for the Baltic Sea Region of Vorpommern
