By train The regional express Rostock - Sassnitz runs every two hours and stops in Altefähr. The regional express from Stralsund to Binz also stops in Altefähr.

A ferry link has connected the town to the mainland since the 13th century, giving Altefähr a special historical position in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region.

The tourist information office offers comprehensive advice on all aspects of vacations and leisure activities on the island of Rügen. In addition to accommodation and brochures on hiking, cycling and water trails, tickets are available for events such as the Störtebeker Festival, the Ozeaneum Stralsund or the White Fleet - in some cases at a discount with a spa card. Travel to Altefähr - by train, car, bus or ferry
Altefähr is easy to reach: From the A20, the B96n leads directly to the town via the Rügen Bridge - Altefähr is the first exit on the island. By train, both the Rostock-Sassnitz regional express and the Stralsund-Binz regional express stop in Altefähr. If you are looking for a special travel experience, take the White Fleet passenger ferry between Stralsund and Altefähr. Bus connections include line 1 from Stralsund and lines 30 and 41 from the interior of the island.

Rügen's youngest and only seaside resort with a south-facing beach and a unique view of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. The beach, which was redesigned in 2014 in the youngest seaside resort on the island of Rügen, is located directly on the Strelasund and is suitable for water sports enthusiasts and anglers. The south-facing location allows you to spend many hours in the sun and enjoy the uniquely beautiful view of the silhouette of the Hanseatic and World Heritage city of Stralsund, especially on summer days. No other place offers such a striking view of the Rügen Bridge, shipyard hall, churches and warehouse district on the harbor island with the Ozeaneum. In addition to a bathing staircase near the playground, there is a bathing ramp further on, which also gives wheelchair users the opportunity to bathe in Altefähr. This is followed by an area 35 meters wide, which was created as a natural beach between rows of groynes. A gentle bathing shore has been created here, which also allows small children to swim and play safely in the shallow water area. Futuristic sun loungers invite you to sunbathe. Separated from these three entrances by a large nature conservation meadow are the dog beach and the open beach area on the steep bank, which offers nudists undisturbed bathing opportunities. Thanks to the special bathing ramp, our beach is ideally suited for use by bathers with walking difficulties. The beach is guarded by the DLRG. The distance to the parking spaces for people with disabilities is 200m. A barrier-free WC is located directly on the beach promenade (Euro key required). A wide range of beach catering is provided by the local restaurants.
