Exhibition "Sumi-e" - Japanese ink painting in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft

From March 27 to June 13, 2026, the Kulturverein Feldberger Land e.V. is presenting a special exhibition in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft: Under the title "Sumi-e", the artist Waldemar Keiss is showing works of Japanese ink painting. Traditional East Asian art meets one of the most charming natural landscapes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Sumi-e: An ancient painting tradition visits Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Sumi-e is a centuries-old Japanese painting technique that works with ink on paper or silk. It is characterized by expressive, often minimalist brushstrokes that capture landscapes, animals or plants in just a few strokes. This exhibition offers art lovers in north-eastern Germany the opportunity to experience this distant pictorial tradition first-hand - far away from the larger cultural centers such as Rostock, Stralsund or Greifswald.

Art and nature in the Feldberg Lakeland

The Feldberg Lakeland, nestled in the tranquil nature of the Mecklenburg Lake District, provides an atmospheric setting for this exhibition. The hilly landscape with its clear water lakes and forests has an aesthetic quality of its own, reminiscent in some ways of the natural subjects of Japanese ink painting. Anyone visiting the Baltic Sea coast and planning a trip inland will find a cultural highlight off the main tourist routes here.
