Forest of the senses

Forest of the senses
The "Forest of the Senses" is an interactive learning trail with many stations. The insect hotel is home to many thousands of insects, such as bees, bumblebees, lacewings, earwigs, grasshoppers, woodlice, ladybugs, millipedes and red-spotted beetles. A wide variety of building materials provide them with shelter. Another station explores the question of what wood weighs. Each type of wood has a different density. With the same volume, different types of wood also have different weights. Test the impression of the different materials on the barefoot nature trail with your eyes open and closed and determine the approximate age of a tree based on its circumference at the chronologic. If you measure the circumference of the tree with both arms and transfer this measurement to a table, you can read off the approximate age. Special experiences from the life of a 100-year-old tree from the Buddenhagen forest and the extraction of resin from the pine are further stations.

Forest of the Senses on the Baltic Sea - experience and understand nature

The Forest of the Senses by the Baltic Sea is an interactive educational trail that takes visitors of all ages on a journey of discovery through the nature of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. With numerous hands-on stations, the trail invites visitors to experience the forest with all their senses - in the spirit of the nature-rich Baltic Sea coast.

Insect hotel, barefoot nature trail and wooden weights

A particular highlight is the insect hotel, which is home to thousands of insects such as bees, bumblebees, ladybugs, earwigs and millipedes. Various building materials provide them with shelter and make the station a fascinating insight into the world of tiny creatures. On the barefoot nature trail, various materials can be felt with open and closed eyes. Another station is dedicated to the weight of different types of wood - because wood of the same volume can vary considerably in weight due to their different densities.

Chronologic and the life of a 100-year-old tree

The approximate age of a tree can be determined from its circumference using the so-called chronologic: You measure the circumference of the trunk with both arms and transfer this measurement to a table, from which the approximate age can be read. The trail is supplemented by stations about special experiences from the life of a 100-year-old tree from the Buddenhagen Forest and about the extraction of resin from pine trees - typical tree species of the forests in the Baltic Sea region between Rügen, Fischland-Darß-Zingst and Usedom.
