A special feature of this small vacation resort is its eye-catching lighthouse, which has been guiding ships in the Bay of Wismar for over 200 years. There is also a small, cozy harbour and a sandy beach several kilometers long. The surf spot is located near the water sports station. Surfing is prohibited on the beach itself. The easiest way to reach the surf school or spot is via the campsite. However, prior registration at reception is necessary. Once you arrive at the beautiful Baltic Sea beach, you have enough space to set up your equipment undisturbed. The spot works equally well in this area of the coast with winds from southwest to northeast. The Timmendorf surf spot is located on the west coast of the island of Poel in the Bay of Wismar - one of the quieter corners of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Baltic coast. The entrance is located directly on the sandy beach at the water sports station. With a standing area around 250 meters long, the spot is particularly suitable for surfing beginners who want to gain their first experience on the water. Please note: Surfing is not permitted on the actual beach.

Wind conditions and water sports on offer in Timmendorf

The best conditions prevail with winds from the southwest to northeast - a wind direction that is regularly encountered on this stretch of coast. The local surf school offers courses and rental in windsurfing, kitesurfing and canoeing. Sanitary facilities with toilets and showers as well as a waste disposal facility are available on site. Parking is available around 500 meters away and is subject to a charge.

How to get to the surf spot Timmendorf on the island of Poel

The island of Poel is connected to the mainland via a bridge and is therefore easily accessible by car. Coming from the A20, take the Wismar-Nord exit; from there it is about 20 kilometers to Timmendorf. The nearest train station is in Wismar, from where the town can be reached by bus or bicycle via the island bridge. The easiest way to reach the surf spot itself is via the campsite - prior registration at reception is required.
