Thiessow surf spot (main spot)
Surf spot Thiessow on the Baltic Sea - Rügen's legendary "Thiewaii"
The surf spot Thiessow is one of the most traditional surf spots on the German Baltic coast. The quiet Baltic resort of Thiessow is located in the extreme south-east of Rügen, at the transition from the Greifswald Bodden to the open Baltic Sea. Even in GDR times, this spot was the only permitted area where windsurfers were allowed to surf in the waves - hence the affectionate nickname "Thiewaii". The small bay offers good conditions, especially when the wind blows from south to northwest, with southwest winds driving moderately high waves into the bay, which are particularly popular with wave fans.
Windsurfing, kitesurfing and SUP - offers right on the beach
The campsite on the headland between Klein Zicker and Thiessow offers the best access to the water. There you can easily set up your surf equipment on the small meadow right on the beach. Those arriving by van, motorhome or camper can park directly at the spot for a small fee or spend the night close to the beach. An on-site surf school offers courses in kitesurfing, SUP and windsurfing. Sanitary facilities, showers and a waste disposal station are available on the campsite. Please take note of the designated kitesurfing and windsurfing zones when surfing.
