Surfspot Dranske
Surfspot Dranske: windsurfing on the Wieker Bodden on Rügen
The Dranske surf spot is located in the north-easternmost part of the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania - right in the village, on the protected Wieker Bodden. This means: no rough Baltic Sea water, but a large shallow water area with a standing area around 200 meters wide. A spacious meadow is available for setting up the equipment. However, the entry area is quite narrow, which is why mutual consideration is important on windy days. The spot rules are clearly visible on an information board directly on site.
Wind conditions and jet effect in DranskeThe spot offers good wind conditions all year round and is particularly suitable for wind directions from north-east to south. An interesting phenomenon: with easterly and westerly winds, there is a noticeable jet effect that provides additional thrust. On a clear day, the nearby island of Hiddensee with its striking Dornbusch lighthouse can be seen from the water. This is one of the reasons why Dranske regularly hosts the German Windsurf Cup.
Infrastructure and offers at the Dranske surf spotThe location in the middle of the village makes Dranske a practical surf spot. Toilets, showers and waste disposal facilities are available at the adjacent campsite. An on-site surf school offers courses in windsurfing, kitesurfing, SUP, canoeing, sailing and dragon boating. There is also a special surf hostel in the village for water sports enthusiasts. Parking spaces are also available.
