St. Johanniskirche Boek
St. Johanniskirche Boek - listed church building in the Mecklenburg Lake District
St. Johanniskirche Boek is one of the most remarkable historic church buildings in the inland area near the Baltic coast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Protestant-Lutheran church is located in the Boek district of the municipality of Rechlin in the Mecklenburg Lake District and is a listed building. A church was mentioned at this location as early as the 13th century - a testimony to the deeply rooted church history in the region.
From the Thirty Years' War to the new church built by Schinkel student Carl Anton Hermes
Heavily damaged after the Thirty Years' War, a new church was built to the west of the manor house in 1758. After a village fire in 1837, the remains of the second wooden church were demolished. The design for the current new building was provided in 1844 by Carl Anton Hermes, a student of Schinkel and master builder from Schwerin. The foundation stone of the third and current church was laid on August 20, 1844. The construction was significantly supported by the Dobbertin monastery governor Carl Johann von Le Fort, who, as patron of the church, paid almost 5,000 marks towards the construction costs and also donated various works of art.
