Stop 01 Plau am See / An der Metow - central stop from which the tours depart on the hour This charming little town has a long history, a picturesque old town and numerous monuments. Originating from a Slavic settlement of fishermen and raftsmen, the town was first mentioned in documents in 1235 under the name Plawe. Plau am See forms a gateway to the Müritz-Elde waterway and has technical buildings associated with it. The historic lift bridge is well worth seeing. It was built in 1916 and is lifted up to 1.60 m every day, if necessary, so that boats can pass. In the city center you will also find the lock bridge known as the "chicken ladder". The Elde lock below the bridge dates back to the 19th century and was modernized at the turn of the century. Passenger boats depart daily from the nearby, newly designed harbor promenade. Here you can also climb the newly built lighthouse and enjoy a magnificent view of the lake and the natural surroundings. Old half-timbered houses characterize the town center. Here you will also find the way to the so-called Lehm- und Backsteinstraße.
