Dargun monastery and castle complex
Dargun monastery and castle complex - a landmark in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
The Dargun monastery and castle complex is the most famous landmark in the town of the same name in the heart of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The mighty walls of the former monastery, which was converted into a castle in the 16th century and severely destroyed by arson in 1945, can now be explored on a walk or a guided tour. Inside you will find the town information center and an exhibition room. If you would like a bird's eye view of the entire complex and the town, you can climb the 25-metre-high observation tower.
Dargun Palace Park with hornbeam avenue and tea pavilionThe extensive castle park around the grounds is perfect for a stroll. 300-year-old yew trees and a unique hornbeam avenue characterize the picture. The romantic 17th century tea pavilion also offers a special setting for weddings. The stunning backdrop of the monastery and castle grounds is regularly used for concerts, medieval markets and Christmas markets - an experience that can be wonderfully combined with a trip to the nearby Baltic Sea coast, for example to Rostock, Greifswald or Stralsund.
