Nehringen fishing tower

Nehringen fishing tower
The Fangelturm in Nehringen was once one of the most impressive castle complexes in Western Pomerania. In the densely overgrown park that stretches behind the Nehringen manor house, you will come across the Fangelturm tower on the right-hand side, which must have once been one of the most impressive castle complexes in Western Pomerania. The tower, which was built in the 14th century and is around 17 meters high, is located on an artificial hill surrounded by wide moats. Located directly on the Mecklenburg-Pomeranian border, the castle fulfilled important security and defensive functions during the centuries of armed conflict.

Fangelturm Nehringen - a medieval testimony on the Baltic Sea

Hidden in a densely overgrown park behind the Nehringen manor house is the Nehringen fishing tower - a remarkable remnant of medieval fortification architecture in the Baltic Sea region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Built in the 14th century, the tower rises around 17 meters into the air and is enthroned on an artificial hill surrounded by wide moats.

Grenzburg between Mecklenburg and Pomerania

The strategic location of the Fangelturm was no coincidence: situated directly on the historic border between Mecklenburg and Pomerania, the castle complex had important security and defensive functions for centuries. It was once considered one of the most impressive castle complexes in the whole of Western Pomerania - an importance that can also be compared with other medieval buildings in the region between Stralsund, Greifswald and the coast.
