In the heart of the state capital Schwerin, the Mecklenburg Foundation presents its permanent exhibition "Mecklenburg - so far, so near" in the Schleswig-Holstein House. Under the motto "In one hour through 300 years of Mecklenburg history", visitors are given a compact and lively insight into the culture and history of the region - from the historic trading towns of Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund to the landscapes of Fischland-Darß-Zingst and the islands of Rügen and Usedom.
Collection and cultural work of the Mecklenburg Foundation
The Mecklenburg Foundation was founded in 1973 and has since amassed an extensive collection of Mecklenburgica. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the foundation offers traveling exhibitions, lectures, readings and projects to promote Low German. Funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, it makes an important contribution to preserving the cultural heritage of the Baltic Sea region.
